Cade Dillard takes the checkers for his $12,000 Magnolia victory.
What won the race: Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., grabbed the lead from Billy Moyer Jr. on lap 26 and dominated the rest of the way in Saturday’s 60-lap Cotton Pickin’ 100 finale at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Dillard beat Will Herrington to the finish line by 2.748 seconds for the unsanctioned Super Late Model event’s $12,000 top prize.
Quotable: “We had a really good car tonight,” Dillard said. “We learned a lot of things last night. We weren’t the best and figured out what we didn’t need to do, but we changed a lot of stuff today and I felt like we hit on something. I probably stepped it up with about 10 or so to go just to make sure I left myself with a gap.”
Key notes: Dillard’s first career victory in the Cotton Pickin’ 100 was his sixth overall triumph of 2022 but just his second in Super Late Model action; his previous win in the headline class was a $5,000 score March 19 at Texas’s Cotton Bowl Speedway. … Herrington, who started outside Dillard in the second row, overtook Moyer for second on lap 53 and finished in the runner-up position. … Moyer attempted to regain second from Herrington in the final laps but settled for a third-place finish after leading laps 1-25. … Kyle Beard moved into fourth on lap 46 and maintained the spot to the checkered flag. … A late-charging Josh Putnam reached fifth on lap 49 went on to complete the top five. … Ashton Winger, who won Friday’s $4,000 weekend opener, started from the pole position but never led a lap and slipped to sixth in the final rundown. … Two cautions slowed the feature, which lasted 22 minutes with 14 competitors completing all 60 laps. … Last year’s Cotton Pickin’ 100 was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
On the move: Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, started 21st and finished 10th.
