Mike Marlar poses with the $7,500 winner's check Saturday at Lake Cumberland.
What won the race: Leading all the way, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., captured Saturday's 40-lap Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series event at Lake Cumberland Speedway, winning from the pole position over his younger brother Camaron Marlar. Mike's third career triumph with the Iron-Man tour paid $7,500 as he topped a 16-car field in the 27th annual Lake Cumberland Classic.
Quotable: “We had a deal at Tri-County (Racetrack) on Thursday night where the doorpanel kept getting into the tire under green flag conditions. We had two flats in the heat race and just decided to call it a night early,” Marlar said “On Saturday we headed back to Kentucky and got the job done at Lake Cumberland Speedway."
Key notes: Marlar was victorious on the Iron-Man tour for the second straight week; he won Oct. 1 at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. ... Seven cars finished on the lead lap of Saturday's feature, which lasted 29 minutes. ... Series points leader Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., started fourth and finished third. ... Nicky Pennington was eliminated in a first-lap tangle with Austin Atkins. ... Adam Ahl slowed for a lap-21 yellow and retired. ... The race was originally scheduled for Oct. 22.
On the move: Joe Denby of Winchester, Tenn., started 10th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Delk Equipment Sales, Rockets Convenience Plus, Tri-Rivers Enterprise (Mark and Kim Dotson), Auto Parts 4 Less, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Capital Capsigns, VP Racing Fuels, Stanley Best Heating & Aiar, Midwest Sheet Metal and Bilstein.
