What won the race: Pole-starting Daryn Klein of Fairview Heights, Ill., led all 30 laps in dominating fashion at Highland Speedway, winning Wednesday's $6,000 Challenge of Champions feature in DIRTcar Super Late Model competition. Third-starting Rodney Melvin moved into the runner-up position on lap 12 and finished a distant 4.135 seconds back.
Key notes: After winning July 15's DIRTcar-sanctioned race at Highland, Klein notched his second victory of the season there and secured a $100 bonus for going topless and winning without a roof. ... Modified standout Mike Harrison moved into third on lap 23 and rounded-out the podium at his home track. ... After following the entire DIRTcar Summer Nationals schedule, second-starting Kye Blight battled Melvin for second in the early laps before fading to finish fourth. ... Dan Jacober and Shannon Kuhn each advanced four positions, finishing sixth and seventh. ... Fifth-running Josh Heuiser pulled off on lap 21. ... Running in conjunction with the Madison County Fair, Wednesday's feature was slowed by one caution and lasted nine minutes, with nine drivers completing 30 laps; 12 were running at the finish. ... Blaze Burwell and Steven Reinacher scratched following hot laps. … Highland Speedway hosts the MARS Late Model Championship Series on Aug. 19 for a $5,000-to-win event.
