Ashton Winger earned $15,000 for his Coors Light Fall Classic victory.
What won the race: Finding grip in the middle of the racetrack, Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., rallied to grab the lead from Dennis Erb Jr. on lap 50 and marched on to a $15,000 victory in Saturday night’s 60-lap Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park. The 23-year-old driver fell back to third place after leading laps 1-2 and 6-17 but recovered to wheel his way to his second career win in the 3/8-mile oval’s 29th annual event.
Quotable: “I kind of rode there for the first 20 laps or so, and then I think I got so conservative that I actually made myself tight through the center of the corner down here,” Winger said. “It was really thin before they moved the (uke) tires down and Dennis got by me. I went pretty hard for a few laps and I figured I could stay with him, and then when I realized I could stay with him I just needed to wait till it got dirty out there (to make a winning pass).”
Key notes: Winger previously won the Fall Classic in 2019. … Tyler Erb reached second on lap 28 and followed Dennis Erb Jr. closely around the inside of the track until Winger shot by the unrelated Erbs amid lapped traffic to gain command with 10 circuits remaining. … Tyler Erb finished second, 2.273 seconds behind Winger. It was his third runner-up placing in the Fall Classic following identical runs in 2019 and '22. ... Dennis Erb Jr. settled for third after leading laps 18-49. … Tennessee's Oakley Jones advanced from 11th to finish fourth in his first-ever Fall Classic start while Friday semifeature winner Clay Harris placed fifth in his first event appearance. ... Cody Overton led laps 3-5 before slipping to fourth and then retiring with mechanical trouble on lap 17. ... A red flag was displayed on the lap-12 restart after fifth-running Billy Moyer was turned sideways in turn two, triggering a multi-car wreck that saw defending race winner Spencer Hughes roll over. No injuries were reported in the tangle that also involved Clay Fisher, Josh Putnam and Trey Mills. … The only other slowdown came on lap 12 for Rick Rickman. … Polesitter Joseph Joiner headed to the pits during the lap-12 incident due to an apparent broken shock but returned and finished eighth.
On the move: Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, started 22nd and finished seventh.
