Pat Doar with the $4,000 in victory lane at Ogilvie Raceway.
What won the race: Inheriting the point when early leader James Giossi spun in front of the field on the second lap, pole-starting Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., led the final 38 circuits to win Saturday's $4,000 20th annual Fall Classic at Ogilvie Raceway. Doar dominated the WISSOTA Late Model field to capture his fifth straight event victory and his seventh overall.
Quotable: “I can’t even believe it, it’s kinda ridiculous,” Doar said. “Obviously I benefited from lots of misfortune out there tonight and I was just in the right place at the right time to miss that (lap-two) mess. It’s too bad all them guys got tore up, I think (James) Giossi was pretty quick and we didn’t even get to really find out. I just love coming here, the track had a little character tonight.”
Key notes: Doar led all but one lap for his 309th career victory. ... Fourth-starting James Giossi stormed to lead on lap two before spinning in front of the entire field on an ensuing restart; the multicar incident necessitated a 15-minute red flag after Giossi rolled and landed on his wheels, while Don Shaw flipped and landed on his roof. All drivers were unhurt, but the incident ended the race for Giossi, Shaw, Andy Jones, Jeff Provinzino, Danny Vang and Josh Zimpel. ... The second red flag of the evening flew on lap nine when 10th-running John Kaanta slammed the turn-one wall and tore down a portion of fencing; Kaanta was uninjured, but it took track officials 25 minutes for cleanup and fence repair. ... Fourteenth-starting Daniel Bargender moved into the runner-up spot on lap a lap-27 restart and trailed Doar the rest of the way, finishing 3.964 seconds back. ... Sixteenth-starting Michael Leach finished third. ... Nick Panitzke moved into fourth on lap 39. ... Dave Mass trailed Doar for the first half of the race before fading to finish fifth. ... Jeff Massingill improved 12 positions and finished sixth. ... Making his first WISSOTA start aboard a Mike Bellefeuille-owned machine, Arkansas visitor Hunter Rasdon overcame a lap-three spin and finished ninth. ... The sixth and final stoppage occurred on lap 26 when Cole Searing was pinched into an infield tractor tire while battling Dave Mass for third. ... Saturday's 40-lap feature lasted 66 minutes, with 14 drivers running at the finish. … Late Models are in action at Ogilvie on Oct. 20-21 for the Topless Nationals.
On the move: Shane Edginton of East Saint Paul, Manitoba, started 24th and finished seventh.
