Michael Chilton flashes under the checkered flag to win Friday's Bluegrass Nationals opener at Richmond Raceway.
What won the race: Sliding ahead of outside front-row starter Greg Johnson on the third circuit, fast qualifier and pole-starting Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., rolled to the $5,000 victory in Friday’s 40-lap Bluegrass Nationals opener at Richmond Raceway. The four-time Ultimate Heart of America Series winner finished 3.428 seconds ahead of Tanner English.
Key notes: The success marked Chilton's third Ultimate Heart of America Series victory of the season at the Kentucky oval after capturing June’s $5,000 Rowland Memorial and July’s $7,500 Butch Shay Memorial. … Chilton is now tied with Zack Dohm and Josh Rice atop the series' all-time wins list. … Tristan Chamberlain of Richmond, Ind., who entered the event one point ahead of Dustin Linville in the Ultimate Heart of America Series standings, finished sixth while Linville placed fourth after running in the position for the entire distance.
