Dillon McCowan earned $5,000 for his first Comp Cams victory.
What won the race: Overtaking Bubba Mullins on lap 12 at Super Bee Speedway, Dillon McCowan of Urbana, Mo., led the rest of the way Friday for his first career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series in the Spooky 50 weekend opener. McCowan took the checkered flag 1.131 seconds ahead of pole-starting Kyle Beard.
Quotable: “You gotta make something happen, I was back there in sixth and it was (kinda) time for a hail Mary,” McCowan said. “We’ve been here once in our modified and I really enjoyed it, we definitely wanted to get down (to race) here and have another go at it. It was a super good track tonight, we traveled eight hours and it definitely makes it worth our while. (Sweeping the weekend) would mean more than a lot of people would ever dream of; winning one of these has always been our dream, my dream especially, this is our first sanctioned Late Model win and I’m pretty speechless, honestly.”
Key notes: McCowan earned a career-high $5,000 payday in his first career Late Model start at Super Bee, becoming the 16th series winner in 21 races this season. ... The second-starting Mullins of West Monroe, La., who led the opening 11 circuits, finished third behind runner-up Kyle Beard; Beard cut Billy Moyer Jr.'s series lead to 23 points entering Saturday's $10,000-to-win season finale. ... Former Spooky 50 winner Tanner Kellick started and finished fourth. ... Texan Brandon Ball advanced five positions to finish fifth. ... Morgan Bagley gained seven spots and finished seventh. ... Last year's Spooky 50 winner, Moyer Jr., of Batesville, Ark., who entered the night with four consecutive feature victories at Super Bee, finished eighth. ... Hall of Famer Billy Moyer started 16th and finished ninth. ... Neil Baggett of Columbus, Miss., finished 10th in the Rick Rickman-owned No. 86. ... The 40-lapper was slowed by two cautions with all but two starters completing every circuit.
On the move: Jamie Buford of Keatchie, La., started 20th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: McCowan’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Sonic, BLC Transportation, Inc., Pomeroy Services, Empire Energy LLC, McCowan Farms, Heritage Tractor, Elite Construction, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein Shocks and Midwest Sheet Metal.
