Dalton Cook shows off his career-high payday at Swainsboro.
What won the race: Fighting off repeated challenges from Friday's prelim winner Brandon Overton, polesitter Dalton Cook of Smiths Station, Ala., led all 50 laps Saturday at Swainsboro Raceway for a career-high $20,000 payday on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. In a frenetic final lap, Michael Page pressured Cook from second with Cody Overton third ahead of older brother Brandon, who ran second most of the way but settled for fourth.
Quotable: "I know I was blocking pretty hard there," Cook said. "I ran the same tires I've run all weekend, because I didn't have (other tires). That made tire choice easy. They cut me a lot of slack because I felt 'em. I'm glad I cleaned my earwax out cause I was listening and bobbing and weaving."
Key notes: Winner Dalton Cook survived hairy traffic on the final lap with Sam Seawright — the Baird Motorsports teammate to the pursuing Michael Page — directly in front of him on the backstretch. Cook slipped around on the outside and raced to the checkers. ... Third-place finisher Cody Overton drove a car powered by a crate engine. ... The 50-lapper was slowed three times, the most serious time when Jeff Smith got into the first-turn wall to draw a red flag. He wasn't injured. ... The first caution appeared for debris on lap 24 and Sam Seawright slowed on lap 31 and pitted for body repairs. ... Nineteen drivers completed 50 laps in the 26-minute event ... Clay Harris drove Mark Fleischer's No. 18B machine and Chris Ferguson a Doug Sanders-owned entry.
On the move: Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., started 11th and finished third.
