McDowell raced to the $5,000 unsanctioned Super Late Model victory by 1.403 seconds over fourth-starting Shane Clanton during the prelim that celebrates the track's 50th anniversary.
Key notes: Making a rare start this season, Clanton, of Zebulon, Ga., took the runner-up spot on a lap-16 restart and trailed McDowell the final 10 laps. ... Mike Marlar started and finished third. ... Chris Madden improved one spot and placed fourth in his first start after recently announcing intentions to scale back following health concerns. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. trailed McDowell the opening 15 laps before slipping to finish fifth. ... The first semifeature was slowed by two cautions and lasted 12 minutes, with 12 competitors completing 25 laps. ... The top-eight finishers have earned starting positions in Saturday's 50-lap, $50,050-to-win finale and will occupy the inside starting position in their respective rows.
