Devin Gilpin picked up $10,000 in the Hall of Fame Classic.
What won the race: Moving by leader Adam Stricker on a late-race restart, fifth-starting Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., led the final 12 laps with an overheating engine to win Saturday's $10,000 Hall of Fame Classic at Brownstown Speedway. Gilpin's second career Hall of Fame Classic victory (2022) serves as his first with the Northern Allstars Late Model Series and his fifth of the season at Brownstown.
Key notes: Gilpin now has nine career major event victories at Brownstown, dating back to July 1, 2017, earning more than $55,000 over that span. He has also amassed 10 local event victories since May 2021. ... The second-starting Stricker, of Batavia, Ohio, led laps 3-38 before giving way to Gilpin and finishing 0.431 of a second back. ... Josh Rice led the opening two laps before being overtaken by Stricker and eventually Gilpin, settling for third. Rice's podium result clinches his second straight Northern Allstars title. ... Derek Groomer, making his Super Late Model debut, and Jason Jameson exchanged the fourth position numerous times after the lap-37 restart, with Groomer prevailing for good on lap 45. The eighth-starting Jameson settled for fifth. ... Last year's Hall of Fame Classic winner Stormy Scott placed sixth. ... Brownstown's Hall of Fame Class of 2024: veteran Dirt Late Model crew member Tony Thomas, Bruce Turner and the Wilhite family of Edinburgh, Ind. ... The 50-lap feature was slowed by three cautions. ... The first came on lap 28 when Shelby Miles slid off the racing surface in turns three and four. He continued until retiring on lap 36. ... Zak Blackwood slowed from 15th with a flat to draw the second stoppage on lap 37. He changed the tire and was the last driver running at the finish. ... Pierce McCarter caused the third and final yellow flag on lap 47 when he slowed from 11th with heavy nose damage before pulling off. ... The race lasted 33 minutes, with 10 competitors completing the distance.
