What won the race: Series veteran Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., cruised to a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 25-lap Malvern Bank West Series feature at Junction Motor Speedway. Berck's $3,000 winner's prize serves as his first series victory of the season and the 99th of his career, further extending his lead on the tour's all-time wins list.
Key notes: Berck, a seven-time Malvern West Series champ, has now secured at least one feature victory in each of the tour's 17 years of existence. ... It's Berck's first win since topping last year's series debut at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on the Silver Dollar Nationals undercard. ... Pole-starting Dylan Sillman was briefly overtaken by Bill Leighton Jr. for second before regaining the runner-up spot on lap 11 and trailing Berck the rest of the way, taking the checkers 0.924 of a second back. Leighton settled for third. ... Seventh-starting Tad Pospisil traded fourth with Brian Kosiski in the closing laps, prevailing and relegating Kosiski to fifth. Pospisil had won three straight series races entering the night. ... The race's lone caution came out on lap nine for an incident involving J.C. Wyman, Jake Bridge and Mike Morton Jr. All three drivers retired. ... The 25-lapper lasted 10 minutes, with 17 drivers running at the checkers.
On the move: Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., started 10th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Berck’s Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Aurora Cooperative, Speedee Mart, Strobel Manufacturing, Snap-On K.D. Tools, Stevens Brothers Bison Farms, Car Quest Auto Parts Sutton & Geneva, Preferred Popcorn, JD Ag Repair/Precision Planting, Campbell Family Farms, Five Star Truck Center, AKRS Equipment, Bergen Service & Repair, Rex Chambers Trucking, Juzyk Electric, VP Racing Fuels, Swift Springs and Five Knuckle Race Wraps.
