Eagle Raceway hosts Sunday's $4,000-to-win Malvern West Series event.
What won the race: Polesitter Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., fought off repeated challenges from Bill Leighton Jr. to captured his fifth Malvern Bank West Series win of the season Sunday at Eagle Raceway, earning $4,000 in the 30-lap Stewart Alley Memorial. Pospisil took the checkers 1.006 seconds ahead of Leighton with Ben Sukup third in the caution-free feature.
Quotable: "The bottom line was the place to be and I'm glad we started where we did," Pospisil said. "I had to make a move with that lapped car and I about gave it up to Bill. But I think that won me the race. ... The lapped traffic started driving away from me there a little bit. So I just was like, 'Oh, I'll just stay where I am; if somebody rolls me on the top, then they do.' I knew I wasn't quite tight enough to run up there, but down low, we were really good."
Key notes: Pospisil notched his 38th career series victory and first at Eagle. ... Runner-up Bill Leighton Jr. edged ahead on 13th lap when Pospisil struggled in traffic, but Pospisil regained the point on the next lap. ... Pospisil was working the high side around tail-running Jake Bridge while Leighton was running below Bridge. ... Ben Sukup recorded his second top-five finish on the series (he finished fourth on May 22, 2021, at Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, Neb.). ... The race lasted seven minutes and 26 seconds. … Late Models were on the undercard to the $10,222-to-win season finale for Malvern Bank 360 sprint cars.
On the move: Dylan Thornton of Orcutt, Calif., started 14th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Pospisil's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Scott Bailey Racing Engine and sponsored by Signor Trucking, Window World, Iron Horse CPAs & Advisors, Dietz Well & Pumps, 97.5 WEXL/WJAG, Island Supply, Bad Chad Motorsports and Malvern Bank.
