Billy Moyer captured his 853rd victory Friday at Batesville.
What won the race: Sliding by race-long pacesetter Jon Mitchell on lap 31, second-starting Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., led the rest of Friday's 35-lap Steve Rushin Memorial opener at Batesville Motor Speedway. Moyer's $5,000 win marks his 14th career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory and his first since earning $3,000 on April 2, 2021, at Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Motorsports Park.
Quotable: “It was pretty gnarly out there for sure, with the holes and stuff going on, it’d give you a workout,” Moyer said. “Steve (Rushin) was a great guy, I always got along with him real well and he helped me, I helped him through the racing times that we needed to use something he had, or I had. Just an all around great guy, ya know and I’m glad I could win that for him and my uncle Karl, he’s not doing real well right now either.”
Key notes: Moyer captured the 853rd win of his illustrious Hall of Fame career and his third overall triumph of the season — his first since Early Thaw action on Jan. 18 and 19 at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, Ariz. ... Mason Oberkramer grabbed second from Jon Mitchell on lap 33 and crossed the line 1.719 seconds behind Moyer. ... The pole-starting Mitchell, of Texarkana, Texas, led the opening 30 laps from the pole before slipping to third. ... Jamie Elam climbed as high as second in the opening laps before fading to fourth. ... B.J. Robinson advanced six positions and completed the top five. ... Series points leader Logan Martin challenged as high as third near the race's halfway mark before slowing and hanging on to finish 10th. ... The race was halted by four cautions, the first coming for an opening-lap solo-spin by Chandler Petty. He soldiered to a 16th-place finish. ... The second stoppage came on lap three after Jon Kirby and Austin Vincent spun while battling for 10th. Vincent backed into turn-three wall, his car coming off the ground momentarily before returning to all four tires; he required a tow back to the pits. ... Kirby continued until slamming the turn-three wall himself on lap nine, causing the third yellow flag and ending his night. ... The fourth and final slowdown came on lap 19 when Brandon Smith slowed from 13th before pulling off. ... The two-day event honors Steve Rushin, the longtime racer, sponsor and car owner who died on Sep. 9, 2023, at the age of 57. The opening 35-lapper lasted 24 minutes, with 14 starters completing the distance and 15 running at the finish. ... The inaugural Rushin Memorial concludes with Saturday's identical 35-lap, $5,000-to-win program.
On the move: Tyler Stevens of Searcy, Ark., started 17th and finished sixth; Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 20th and finished ninth.
