What won the race: Red-hot Jesse Stovall of Billings, Mo., dominated the finale of Park Jefferson International Speedway's Carlson Clash, earning $3,000 for a 40-lap triumph. Stovall cruised most of the way, taking the checkers 3.179 seconds ahead of runner-up Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo.
Quotable: "It's just awesome to be racing this well right now," Stovall said. "We have these Black Diamond Race Cars rolling. It kind of brought my energy back up about racing. I know how hard it is to run good and win races and also how easy it is to fall down. Racing now on several different surfaces has proven to me how versatile this car is. I'm so glad we decided to make the trip here to race."
Key notes: Stovall finished second in Friday's Carlson Clash opener won by Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa; Simpson was eighth Saturday. ... Weekend action was co-sanctioned by the Iowa-based Corn Belt Clash circuit. ... It was a rare Super Late Model event for the A to Z Promotions track, which ran full-fender cars more regularly in the 1980s and '90s. ... The 4/10-mile oval paid tribute to former track owner Ted Carlson. "He took this place from a horse track and made it very popular for dirt racing," new owner Adam Adamson said.
On the move: Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., came from 12th to finish third; Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, started 18th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Stovall's Black Diamond Chassis is sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tire, Malvern Trust & Savings Bank, Midwest Sheet Metal, Rushin Towing, Scott Bailey and Swafford's Service.
Points chase: Phillips took the MLRA points at Park Jefferson. Dave Eckrich of Cosgrove, Iowa, leads the Corn Belt Clash standings.
