What won the race: Former track champion Cale Simons of Leesburg, Ga., won from the pole position Saturday at Albany Motor Speedway for his first career victory on the Southern Thunder Late Model Series. Simons took the checkers ahead of Georgia drivers Cole Exum and Cecil Eunice to earn $2,500.
Key notes: Simons was the 2009 Albany Late Model champion. ... Cecil Eunice, who finished third, won the evening's feature for Albany's Limited Late Model division. ... Tyler Summerlin of Funston, Ga., was cut from his wrecked car in the Limited Late Model feature; he was checked out at the hospital with a severe concussion but back home Sunday. ... Southern Thunder competitors made their first of two 2015 stops at Albany. The tour is set to return Aug. 8.
