What won the race: Third-starting Jason Rauen of Farley, Iowa, overtook outside front-row starter Tyler Droste on the 42nd lap at Marshalltown, winning by four lengths for a $3,500 payday. Rauen notched his first Deery Brothers Summer Series in 34 career starts while Droste matched his career-best with a runner-up finish.
Quotable: “It feels pretty good to get this win. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve led a lot of races and had some crazy stuff happen,” Rauen said. “Some of the best drivers around compete in this series. Any one of the top 10, 15 guys can win on any night. You’ve got to have a good car and a little luck.”
Key notes: Front-row starters Scott Fitzpatrick and Tyler Droste both declined the $1,000 front-row challenge to start on the tail. ... Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, won the $500 Australian Pursuit. ... Carnected Auto added $500 to the standard series winner's purse. ... The series visited Marshalltown for the 24th time.
