What won the race: Snapping Ivedent Lloyd Jr.'s two-race United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series winning streak, Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., collected his 25th career series victory and $5,000 at Volusia Speedway Park. Whitener's fellow front-row starter Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., never challenged in second, while Lloyd came home third.
Quotable: “It’s been a few months since we’ve been in victory lane so to do it in the richest series event of the year feels awesome,” Whitener said. “I want to thank Big Frog Motorsports, our sponsors and fans for their great support.”
Key notes: The 67-lap main event was plagued by several cautions. ... The $5,000-to-win event was the richest of the season on the UDLMCS circuit. ... Whitener also earned $350 for fast time and $200 as the halfway leader. ... The 20th annual Powell Memorial pays tribute to the Powell family, which lost family members including former Ocala Speedway owner J.H. Powell Jr. in a 1996 airplane crash. ... Volusia hosted the series for the second straight week; Lloyd won a makeup race on May 30 while Bronson won the night's regular season feature (not a UDLMCS event).
On the move: Racing as a teammate to Whitener, Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, Fla., improved 12 positions en route to a fourth-place finish.
Winner's sponsors: Whitener's Big Frog Motorsports Barry Wright Race Car is sponsored by AR Bodies, B and B Produce, Big Frog Signs & Graphix, Big Frog Shock & Suspension Technology, Comp Cams, Dave's Towing, Daytona Sensors, Hoosier Racing Tire, Racecar Engineering and Schoenfeld Headers.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Keith Nosbisch of Valrico, Fla., had 2,310 points to lead Kyle Bronson (2,250) and Jack Nosbisch Jr. (2,150).
