John Ownbey emerges from his winning car at 411 Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., took the checkers five seconds ahead of Matt Henderson on Saturday at 411 Motor Speedway to complete a weekend sweep on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. Ownbey won the Crate tour's event Friday at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C.
Quotable: “This is a very competitive series and it’s tough to win one of these races because everyone has the same engine under the hood," Ownbey said. "It’s all about handling and setup. My crew gave me a great race car this weekend, and it practically drove itself. We all had a lot of fun this weekend, and we’ll be back this year to run some more NeSmith races.”
Key notes: The feature was slowed by six cautions in the first 20 laps but ran caution-free over the second half of the race. ... Ownbey became the tour's first repeat winner of 2015 and the second straight driver to sweep the Tri-County-411 weekend, with Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., accomplishing the feat in 2014. ... Jason Cardwell and Adam Beeler tangled in turn four during a consolation race, with Beeler rolling over; the drivers weren't injured. ... Greg Martin barrel-rolled in the second consolation race; he drove away unharmed. ... The $4,000 winner's purse was the tour's richest to date in 2015.
On the move: Anthony White charged from 12th to finish third in the 40-lap event; Johnson stormed from 18th to place sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Ownbey's No. 44 Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Auto Depot, JRC Motorsports, Stealth Carburetor and Outlaw Disc Brakes.
Points chase: Leaving 411, Johnson has 932 points to lead Chase Edge (860) and rookie Ryan King (838).
