What won the race: Multitime track champion and hometown driver Eric Spangler raced to victory from his fourth starting spot for a $3,000 midweek victory in the Merritt Summer Showdown. Spangler took the checkers ahead of Dona Marcoullier of Houghton Lake, Mich., and NASCAR driver Austin Dillon of Lexington, N.C.
Key notes: Polesitter Brandon Thirlby finished 21st and fast qualifier Steve Fairbanks was eighth. ... The midweek event was the second race on the first-year Ethanol Tour. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Kevin Juusola, Rachel Carpenter, Kevin Reeve and Carl Ries. ...
