Information provided by: Christian Dundee and series reports (last updated July 3, 12:49 pm)
Nezworski scores non-stop Deery Brothers victory
What won the race: In a non-stop, 40-lap feature, Andy Nezworski of Buffalo, Iowa, led all the way from the pole position to snap a seven-year IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series victory drought. He collected $3,000 payday for his second series triumph in front of a big crowd that enjoyed postrace pyrotechnics.
Quotable: “It took a while to get through lapped traffic, but we got through OK,” said Nezworski, who loaded up and headed for home rather than stay for the postrace fireworks display. “It was a good night for us and we needed it to be. It was a long trip up here.”
Key notes: Nezworski's previous Deery Brothers victory came April 29, 2008, at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. ... The series made just its second-ever appearance in Algona, with series ironman Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown, Iowa, winning the previous on July 31, 2008. ... Kossuth County regularly races on Thursday nights, but Late Models aren't usually on the card. ... Nezworski has finished no worse than seventh in eight series races.
On the move: Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, climbed six positions en route to a sixth-place finish.
Winner's sponsors: Nezworski's No. 7 Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Aero Concrete, American Family Insurance, Concrete Services, Green Buick GMC, Jordan Construction and McCleary Excavating.
Points chase: Nezworski entered Thursday's action trailing Kay by four points atop the standings and regained the lead in the title chase by a single marker.
Car count: 20
Next series race: July 7, West Liberty Raceway (West Liberty, IA) $3,000
