What won the race: Winning a lengthy battle, veteran Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., outdueled Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., for a $3,000 victory in Little Valley Speedway's Freedom Daze Late Model special event. He won in a 2-race-old car.
Quotable: "Greg had a really good car tonight, too. I had to really concentrate and hit my marks," Knight said. "I kept driving in a bit too hard and getting a little assed out. Congrats to him. He had a helluva a run too. He's fun to race with. All these guys are. This is my first win of the year. It's been a bit of a dry spell and struggling a little bit. That's why I'm so excited to be right here talking to you. I'm kind of pumped up.”
Key notes: Oakes was a runner-up for the second straight night. He also finished second in an unsanctioned event on Thursday night at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio. ... Mike Wonderling of Wellsville, N.Y., earned $2,000 for his victory in the Crate Late Model feature. ... The track plans a demolition derby and fireworks display on Saturday.
Winner's sponsors: Knight's No. 9K is sponsored by Jay's Auto Wrecking, Jim's Automotive, Junior's Core, Keystone Alliance, Nash FM 97.9, Parts Plus, Ripley Machine & Tool, Sprague Farm & Brew Works and Wurth.
Points chase: Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., led the track's Super Late Model standings entering Friday's action, but he did not compete.
Heat race winners: Chris Hackett, Dutch Davies, Greg Oakes
Editor's note: Results and race details are unofficial.
