What won the race: After fast qualifier and polesitter Timbo Mangum of Lancaster, S.C., led the final four laps but failed to meet weight requirements, Steve Banal of Lake Wylie, S.C., was declared the winner Saturday at Cherokee Speedway, his first victory on the Southeastern Late Model Sportsman Series. Outside front-row starter Trent Ivey led 26 laps but had a tire go down. Doug Davis inherited the lead, but contact with Magnum knocked him out of the race, and Mangum led the rest of the way.
Key notes: Eight of 17 starters completed 30 laps. ... The feature lineup was set straight from qualifying. ... Cherokee contested the second of three holiday weekend programs for the Southeastern series. Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., hosted the tour Friday, while Harris Motor Speedway in Rutherfordton, N.C., welcomes drivers Sunday. ...
