Bub McCool heads for victory at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Third-starting Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., passed race-long leader Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., on the 50th of 60 laps and fought off challenges from the polesitter over the final laps for a $10,000 Southern All Star Series victory in Magnolia's 12th annual Governor's Cup.
Quotable: “Randy had a great car the whole race, but my car just kept getting better and we were finally able to pass him in the last few laps,” McCool said. “This season has just been amazing so far. It seems like we are getting better and better every night. I want to thank Randy Thompson, my sponsors, my crew, and my great fans for their support.”
Key notes: McCool notched his first career SAS victory and his seventh overall win in 2015. He previously won at Magnolia on May 9 in Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series action. ... Weaver led the first 49 circuits. ... McCool swapped second with SAS points leader Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., on several occasions over the first 49 laps. ... Hickman fell from third to 11th in the final five trips. ... The 12th annual Governor's Cup was the richest event in Southern All Star Series history. ... Group qualifying and heat races were completed Friday with consolations and the main event contested Saturday.
