Jordy Nipper made his first start on the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series and came away with a $2,000 victory.
What won the race: Making his first start on the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series with a CT525 motor purchased last winter, Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., outdueled pole starter Tyler Crowder on the opening lap and led the rest of the distance for a $2,000 victory in front of a good crowd at Penton Raceway.
Quotable: “I knew the start was going to be critical and whoever got the early lead would be difficult to pass, so I made up my mind I was gonna run down hard into the corner, and either come out leading, or running third," Nipper said. "I wanted to win really bad.”
Key notes: Tyler Crowder’s second-place finish marked his third-consecutive top-five performance on the series. … Nine cautions slowed the pace, including five before six laps were completed. … Chad Wallace’s third-place finish was his second start in a race car this season, and his first on the touring series. He recently competed in a weekly show at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway. … Seventeen drivers finished on the lead lap. …The race was a makeup of a June 12 rainout.
On the move: Rookie of the Year candidate Matt Dooley of Brooks, Ga., advanced from 17th on the grid to a 10th-place finish in the 40-lapper.
Winner's sponsors: Nipper's No. 1N is sponsored by M&S Concrete, Cushman Paint & Body, West Coast Livestock, Scotty’s Muffler, Brake and CV Joints, Pit Bull Racing Engines.
Points chase: Tim Busha of Boaz, Ala., lost his six-point lead after going up in a smoke at Penton.
