Billy Ogle Jr. debuted a Longhorn Chassis for his victory at Wythe.
What won the race: Debuting a new Longhorn Chassis, fourth-starting Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., overtook polesitter Vic Hill of Morristown, Tenn., with three laps remaining in Monday's Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series season-opener, leading the final circuits for a $3,500 payday.
Quotable: "On the last restart, or the second-to-last, I tried the top down here in (turns) one and two and I knew Vic was running the low side," Ogle said. "When we had that start there that we almost went but we didn't go? I kind of gassed it up through there and said 'It's pretty good up here, I'm going to try it.' I think that was the difference. I just moved up in one and two and I could get a lot of momentum down the straightaway."
Key notes: Ogle Jr. has two career Southern Nationals victories. His last came at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway in 2005. … The feature was delayed by rain for more than an hour. With weather threatening the program, the evening’s dash was scrapped and the feature was lined up based on time trial results. … Austin Smith drew a caution on lap 15. … A yellow flag waved for Kenneth Howell on lap 18. … Mark Dotson drew a caution on lap 25 when he slowed with a right-rear flat. … Running fifth, Smith spun to draw the race’s final yellow on lap 29. ... The Ray Cook-promoted series is in its 11th season of action.
Winner's sponsors: Ogle's Stacy Boles-owned Longhorn Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsorship from Advanced Transporation, Keyser Mfg., Westhaven Speed Equipment, Outlaw Graphics, Competition Racing Equipment, BruceBilt Performance and Hoosier Tire South.
