Rocky Owens celebrates his $2,000 victory in Attica, Ohio
What won the race: Third-starting Rocky Owens of Mansfield, Ohio, overtook polesitter Ryan Missler of Belleville, Ohio, in the final circuits of Friday's 30-lap main event to score his first career Sunoco American Late Model Series victory. He earned $2,000.
Quotable: “This car has been fantastic the last three weeks here. I’ve got a great group of people helping me this year and it’s starting to show now," Owens said. "Doug Heath is the owner and he’s keeping us going. My dad and Rod Lucas and Steve Day and Shawn…we all put what all we have into this and Doug keeps us going. I have to thank him for everything.”
Key notes: Owens, who competes regularly at Attica, also won at the track for the first time this season. His previous best finish was second in July 10 weekly action. ... The Sunoco American Late Model Series made its second and final stop at Attica. ... Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind., won the previous stop on April 17; he finished sixth. ... Track points leader Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio, finished fifth Friday. ... Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, welcomes the tour Saturday for the first of six ALMS events in August.
On the move: Drown climbed five spots from 10th to notch a top-five finish.
Points chase: Entering Friday's event, Rusty Schlenk of McClure, Ohio, had 567 points to lead Ryan Unzicker (449) and Rich Bell (435).
