Ryan King tells Roby Helm about his victory at Penton Raceway.
What won the race: Winning his second consecutive event on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, Ryan King of Seymour, Tenn., led all 40 laps for a $2,000 victory at Penton Raceway. Ryan Crane and Matt Henderson closely followed King to the checkers.
Quotable: “This win wasn’t as easy as it looked because the track was pretty rough, and it was all I could do to hang on,” King said. “We’re on a roll here, and I just hope we can keep it up. That first win was pretty awesome, the second win is even better, and if we can make it three in a row, that would be off the chart.”
Key notes: King's previous win came Aug. 1 at Cochran (Ga.) Motor Speedway. ... Several cautions slowed the feature, which took 47 minutes. ... Eleven drivers completed all 40 laps and 14 were running at the finish. ... Series points leader Ronnie Johnson finished one lap down in 12th. ... Penton welcomed the series for the lone time in 2015. ... The track hosted the first leg of a weekend doubleheader that also includes a $3,500-to-win program at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City. The events were originally scheduled for the Fourth of July weekend, but Mother Nature had other plans.
On the move: Crane started 12th and rallied for a runner-up finish; Cody Martin started 20th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: King's Stinger Chassis is sponsored by Jim Sands Roofing, King Roofing, King Chassis Works, Phantom Racing Engines, HVH and O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Points chase: Johnson had 1,128 points to lead Chase Edge (996) and King (992) entering the weekend.
