Evan Ellis swept the Labor Day weekend at Magnolia.
What won the race: Winning $2,000 on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series for the second consecutive night, third-starting Evan Ellis of Plantersville, Miss., completed a weekend sweep of touring series action at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Ellis overtook runner-up Jeremy Shaw on the 17th lap and led the rest of the way.
Quotable: “I had no idea how big of a lead I had, but my car was really rolling tonight, and I just seemed to get to the lapped cars at the right time where it wouldn’t slow my momentum to get by them,” Ellis said. “I know I got around Jeremy Shaw to take the lead, but he’s pretty tough to beat on this track, so I knew I couldn’t make a mistake, or he would be there to get around me.”
Key notes: Ellis topped Justin McRee and Mike Boland in Saturday's opener, which was originally scheduled for May 24 before Mother Nature reset the event. ... Eric Cooley won the evening's Super Late Model feature and finished seventh in NeSmith action. ... The tour made its finally Mississippi appearance of 2015.
On the move: Mike Boland started 13th and finished sixth; Chase Washington climbed from 16th to finish eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Ellis drives a Barry Wright Race Car using a GM 604 engine with sponsorship from Flurry Auto Repair, Ellis Certified Welding, Xtreme Graphics and 18 Inc.
