Randy Weaver salutes the East Alabama crowd on Sunday.
What won the race: Reversing the finishing order of Saturday's top-two drivers, polesitter Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., outran fifth-starting Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., by 1.021 seconds Sunday for a $4,000 victory in the Alabama State Championship finale for the Southern All Star Series. Weaver led all 40 laps for his fifth SAS victory of 2015.
Quotable: "It's fun to race down here. This racetrack's really fun," Weaver said. "I guess I'm going to cut this trophy in half and give half of it to (Chris) Madden; he said I crowded him on that start. We're just racing hard. We're not in the same type cars, so we're going to be doing this a lot."
Key notes: Madden quickly moved forward to take second on the eighth circuit and held it over Jason Hiett, who ran third for most of the distance. ... Eleven drivers completed all 40 laps in a race that took just shy of 34 minutes to complete. ... The Southern All Stars ran a pair of $4,000-to-win events Saturday and Sunday as part of the 37th annual Alabama State Championships. ... Besides the Southern All Stars, EAMS hosted $5,000-to-win events for both Limited and Crate Late Models.
On the move: Consolation race winner Dylan Ames rallied for a top-five finish.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Outlaw Racing Southeast Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Ford engine and sponsored by Stone Land Cleaning and Excavating, Mission Transport, A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services and The Bailey Company.
Points chase: Fourth-place finisher Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., has clinched his third consecutive SAS championship with one race remaining on Oct. 24 at Talladega Short Track.
