Chris Madden picked up $12,000 at the 25th Blue-Gray 100.
What won the race: Fifth-starting Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., overtook race-long leader Don O'Neal on a lap-84 restart and earned a $10,000 Carolina Clash victory in Cherokee Speedway's Blue-Gray 100. O'Neal rallied back to second after pitting to change a flat tire, but fell short as Madden collected $12,000 for his fifth Blue-Gray 100 victory and eighth career series victory.
Key notes: Madden whose previous Blue-Gray 100 victories came in 2004, '06, '10, and '13, has finished first or second in his last seven starts. ... Six drivers completed 100 laps. ... Eighth-starting Casey Roberts ran as high as second but retired on lap 78. ... A lap-10 red flag appeared for a pileup in turn one. ... Polesitter Ross Bailes drew an early caution, then had a lap-90 flat tire while running third. ... Chris Ferguson lowered his track record in time trials, but he was pushed to the pits during pace laps for the first heat with a broken rear end; he started on the tail of the feature with a borrowed rear end from Josh Langley and rallied into the top five before ignition woes ended his race with 10 laps remaining. ... The Carolina Clash sanctioned the Blue-Gray 100 for the first time. ... Caution laps in the 100-lap feature until the final 20 circuits. ... Danny Ledford scratched from the main event. ... Trent Ivey won the SECA-sanctioned Crate Late Model feature.
Winner's sponsors: Madden's Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Century Plastics, Crowder Trucking, Cushman Paint & Body, Modern images, Allstar Performance, Crescent Moon Homes, LLC, Stroble Mini Storage, Penske Racing Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Race Fuels, Worley Monument and Henderson Amusment.
