What won the race: Going from third to first in the final two laps, 17th-starting Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont, W.Va., rallied for a $2,000 RUSH victory in the Gary Knollinger Memorial. the 15th-starting Max Blair, leading for a lap-23 restart, ended up second while Jared Miley, who led the first 22 laps, was disqualified after contact with Blair on the previous double-file restart sent Miley over the turn-one banking.
Quotable: "I always wanted to win this race so it feels great to get it done," Hawkins said. " I as a little concerned starting 17th, but I know how hard (car owner) Jerry (Haseleu) works on it. Every time I've driven it, it's been good enough to win, so if it didn't make it to victory lane, it was going to be my fault."
Key notes: Eric Wilson was running second when an early flat tire gave him the TBM Brakes Tough Brake of the Night. ... Prelims were held Friday evening with the main event reset for Sunday afternoon after rain postponed Saturday's action. ... Peoples Natural Gas sponsored the event. ... The Steel City Stampede drew more 230 cars, including 26 Super Later Models and 54 Crate Late Models.
On the move: John Mollick, subbing for Mark Moats Jr., rallied from 21st to fourth to earn Precise Racing Products Pedal Down Hard Charger honors. Mollick also passed 11 cars to win a consolation race.
Winner's sponsors: Hawkins drove the Jerry Haseleu-owned No. rj1 Rocket Chassis with sponsorship from Jack's Recycling, Oleska's Auto Body and AOS Service.
Points chase: Max Blair wrapped up the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH tour combined tour title along with winning the Northern and Southern divisions.
