Chase Edge of LaFayette, Ala., emerges in victory lane at Golden Isles.
What won the race: Polesitter Chase Edge of LaFayette, Ala., captured NeSmith Chevrolet's RockAuto.com Winter Shootout opener at Golden Isles Speedway's Super Bowl of Racing on Friday, overtaking Ryan Carter of Blackshear, Ga., on the third lap and leading the rest of the 50-lapper for a $2,500 payday.
Quotable: “Our car was fast from the time we unloaded it until we took the checkered flag,” Edge said “About the only mistake I made all night was on that restart when I let Ryan Carter get a jump on me. I really have taken a liking to Golden Isles Speedway because it’s big, fast, and it reminds me a lot of one of my home tracks, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala.”
Key notes: Early leader Ryan Carter ran in the top three for most of the race, but faded to 10th in the closing laps. ...
On the move: Robert Diekemper of Bloomingdale, Ga., started 15th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Edge's MasterSbilt by MBH is sponsored by Edge's Gas Company, All Star Graphix and Jeff Dodgen Logging.
Points chase: Chase Edge moved into the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout lead with 360 points to lead Cale Conley (260) and Ryan King (256).
Car count: 29
Fast qualifier: Chase Edge
Time: 16.344 seconds
