Russell Erwin celebrates his sixth straight victory overall on Friday.
What won the race: Third-starting Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, W.Va., stole the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., amid traffic on the 32nd lap and never looked back, pocketing $5,000 for his first Ultimate Super Late Model Series victory. Erwin, a standout in steel-block engine action, extended a personal six-race winning streak.
Key notes: Brandon Overton of Appling, Ga., rounded out the podium driving Troy Baird's No. 5 Club 29 Race Car. ... Ferguson lowered the track record in time trials and was a half second quicker than the next fastest competitor. ... The feature lineup was set straight from qualifying. ... After receiving several inches of rain Thursday, beautiful weather conditions prevailed. ... The series completed just its second event of the season. ... County Line hosted its first of two series events in 2014; the Ultimate tour's season-ending event is at the Elm City, N.C., oval on Nov. 14-15.
On the move: Mike Gault (10th) of Gaffney, S.C., and series rookie Anthony Sanders (12th) of Spartanburg, S.C., each improved six positions.
Winner's sponsors: Erwin’s Corky Williams and Rose Strickland-owned MasterSbilt Race Car is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Collins Signs & Trophies, Corky’s Auto Sales, C&R Motorsports, Erwin Racing Supply, GW Performance, Lease Wholesale and The Muffler Place and Thomas Clarke Performance.
Points chase: Overton unofficially takes the points lead by a single marker over fifth-finishing Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., who won the tour opener at Modoc (S.C.) Raceway.
