Pearson Lee Williams raises the checkered flag in victory lane.
What won the race: Second-starting Pearson Lee Williams of Dublin, Ga., won a wild one at Cochran Motor Speedway for a $2,000 NeSmith RockAuto.com Winter Shootout victory. Williams spun battling with lap 1-27 leader Jeremy Faircloth for the lead on lap 30, but was restored to the lead for the restart. During the caution, Faircloth drove in front of Williams to brake-check the leader, and Faircloth, upset with contact between the two, was disqualified.
Quotable: “That tangle in turn one was just a result of hard racing, and it could have been me going to the back for the restart just as easy as it was Jeremy,” Williams said. “I messed up and opened up the bottom, and Jeremy took it, just like any other hard racer would. I hated it that he brake-checked us on the front straightaway, but we were lucky and didn’t get any damage out of that.”
Key notes: The 40-lap feature was slowed by five cautions. ... Fifteen of the 24 starters finished the feature. ... Jeremy Faircloth lead the first 27 laps before retiring the feature running second. ... Chase Edge also retired running second on the final lap. ... Sunday afternoon's event concludes NeSmith's RockAuto.com Winter Shootout. ... The Winter Shootout has drawn more than 130 drivers from 16 states for the first six events in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
On the move: Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., charged from the 12th starting position to finish sixth.
