What won the race: Fourth-starting Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., outran a rallying Dean Bowen of Whiteville, N.C., for his second straight Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory at Lancaster Speedway collecting the $5,000 payday in the Palmetto State Championship. Fast qualifier Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., led the first 27 laps before retiring with right-rear issues.
Key notes: Bailes, who has won eight of his last 10 starts across the Super and Crate Late Model divisions at Lancaster, also triumphed in the previous weekend's Clash opener at Carolina Speedway near Gastonia, N.C. ... Five of 17 starters were running at the finish, mostly because of single-car problems. ... Walking back to the pits after a wreck, G.R. Smith confronted fellow driver Donald Bradsher at his race car during a red-flag stoppage; Smith was disqualified, giving up a 15th-place finish. ... Chris Madden lowered the track record in qualifying with an 18.219-second lap. ... Track officials decided to forgo heat races because of the cold weather. ... Lancaster debuted a new red clay surface that kept dust down but maintained traction that was hard on equipment for some teams. ... Rain soaked the track just after the Carolina Clash feature, postponing the rest of the night's action.
On the move: Bowen charged from his 12th starting position to finish second.
Winner's sponsors: Bailes drives the Ronnie McCarter owned No. 87 Longhorn Chassis sponsored by Bailes Construction, Felony Farms, FK Rod Ends, American Racer Tire and Renegade Fuel.
Points chase: After two series races, Ross Bailes has 210 points to lead Dean Bowen (206) with Ricky Weeks (183) in third.
