Chris Madden takes the checkers for his $4,000 victory at Rome.
What won the race: Second-starting Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., topped fifth-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., for victory for the second time in as many nights, leading all 40 laps for a $4,000 victory in the Ultimate Super Late Model Series-sanctioned Rome Rumble.
Quotable: "We had a great race car and just got out there and stayed out of the rocks and made sure we didn't have no flat tires and won the race," Madden said. "I like a lot of places that are fast and carry a lot of speed. This is one of 'em, this is one of the top of my list here."
Key notes: Madden, who now has nine career Ultimate victories, won for the seventh time in his last 11 starts over a span of 51 days. ... Madden previously nipped Clanton at the line for $6,000 in Saturday's Spring Nationals feature at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway. ... Sixteen drivers completed all 40 laps. ... Polesitter Tyler Millwood retired after one lap. ... The Ultimate Series has now seen four winners in as many 2016 events. ... The tour made its first-ever visit to Rome. ... Rome ran the first of six scheduled events at the undersized half-mile oval for 2016.
On the move: Consolation race winner Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., came forward for a top-five finish.
Winner's sponsors: Madden's Longhorn Chassis has a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Century Plastics, Crowder Trucking, Cushman Paint & Body, Allstar Performance, Crescent Moon Homes, LLC, Stroble Mini Storage, Penske Racing Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Race Fuels, Worley Monument and Henderson Amusement.
