What won the race: Two-time ALMS champion Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., charged from the ninth starting position, passing Jeff Babcock of Wayne, Ohio, and Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich., with two laps remaining in the 35-lap distance for a $2,000 victory.
Key notes: Babcock led the first 33 laps before Schlenk roared past, overcoming a run-in while battling for the lead with Van Wormer that sent Babcock spinning and drew a lap-19 caution; both drivers maintained their positions. ... Babcock tagged third-running Chris Keller under the yellow, forcing Keller pitside. ... In total, the feature was slowed by four cautions (laps 17, 18, 19 and 31). ... Schlenk previously won the ALMS East visit to Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Mich., on April 26. ... The race kicked off a tripleheader weekend for ALMS East competitors (events are also scheduled for Oakshade and Eldora). ... Brandon Thirlby broke a tie rod running fifth. ... Six-time series winner Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Mich., is driving a Doug Finley-owned machine in this weekend's ALMS events; Roberts makes his first starts of 2014 after missing most of 2013. ... Finley, who operates Northside Towing & Service, has fielded cars for Sam Epling and most recently Dona Marcoullier; Marcoullier said that the pair split on good terms a few weeks ago.
On the move: Dona Marcoullier of Houghton Lake, Mich. rallied from 15th starting to finish fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Schlenk's Bob Pierce Race Car is sponsored by Zeller Automotive, Allstar Performance, Dowdy Welding & Fabrication, Main & Company and Warpaint Motorsport Graphix.
Points chase: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., was leading ALMS points, but he skipped the event in favor of the Lucas Oil Show-Me 100.
