Chris Ferguson raises a triumphant arm at Travelers Rest.
What won the race: Polesitter Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., led every lap of the Whitey Whitesides Memorial at Travelers Rest Speedway for a $4,000 payday and his eighth career Ultimate Super Late Model Series victory.
Quotable: "I can't say enough, this car just drove flawless. We went a little bit harder there on tires ... but once that track cleared off I could just drive this thing wherever I wanted to," Ferguson said. "I could charge the corners, I could drive it easy."
Key notes: Ferguson picked up his third overall victory of the season and his second on the Ultimate circuit. ... Runner-up Dennis Franklin posted his best series finish thus far in 2016. ... Second-starting Casey Roberts was also an early retiree; he was running third on the fifth lap when he rolled his nose and spun in turn two, collecting last year's Travelers Rest winner Johnny Pursley. Both were eliminated. ... Next up for the tour will be the Colonial Clash miniseries, which rolls through four Mid-Atlantic tracks in as many days from June 2-5.
On the move: Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., improved from his fifth-row starting spot to complete the top five.
Winner's sponsors: Ferguson's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Champion, Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, On-Site Solutions, Langley Collision Center, Carver & Sons Roofing, Keith's Handyman Services, Hickman Fabricating and K&N Filters
Points chase: With his victory, Ferguson unofficially took a three-point lead over Roberts and Collins atop the Ultimate standings.
