Dale McDowell earned $6,000 for his third straight series victory.
What won the race: For the second consecutive evening, Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back, leading every circuit en route to an Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals victory. Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., kept pace with McDowell at times, but never mounted a serious challenge.
Quotable: "There in the mid-part of the race, I could feel it grinding on tire a little bit, so I slowed the pace down a little bit so I wouldn't hurt my tire and have a flat," McDowell said. "Sure enough, there at the end, guys were having flats ... there at the end, I felt like I had enough tire to stretch out there in case something happened."
Key notes: McDowell won the tour's final three events. ... A dozen drivers completed all 50 laps. ... The feature was slowed by two cautions. Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala., tagged the wall in turns one and two on the fourth lap and Brent Dixon of Elberton, Ga., later slowed with a flat tire. ... Brian Reese of Sharpsburg, Ga., slammed the wall during time trials. ... Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., pulled double duty, finishing seventh in the Super Late Model feature and winning the Crate Late Model feature. ... Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, Ala., triumphed in the Steel-Head Late Model main event while making his first-ever visit to Dixie. ... The track drew one of its largest crowds ever. ... The race was a makeup of a May 10 rainout. ... Although the series wrapped up Saturday, Ray Cook's officiating crew offers a pair of "bonus races" the remainder of Memorial Day weekend with a $5,000-to-win event at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn., and a $3,000-to-win event at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C., the track where Cook began racing and promotes today.
