Jeep Van Wormer and his crew enjoy victory lane at Oakshade.
What won the race: Fifth-starting Jeep Van Wormer of Pinconning, Mich., took the point from Casey Noonan of Sylvania, Ohio, on the fifth lap and led the rest of the way for a $2,000 Sunoco American Late Model Series East victory. Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., was a distant second.
Key notes: Noonan led the first four circuits after starting outside of the front row, but fell to third at the finish. ... The feature took three attempts to get started and then ran 30 laps caution-free. ... Van Wormer has 32 career ALMS victories, second to only Kris Patterson's 36 wins on the tour's all-time list. ... Oakshade held its 62nd series event and third Late Model race of the season. ... Six-time series winner Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Mich., is driving a Doug Finley-owned machine in this weekend's ALMS events; Roberts makes his first starts of 2014 after missing most of 2013. ... Finley, who operates Northside Towing & Service, has fielded cars for Sam Epling and most recently Dona Marcoullier; Marcoullier said that the pair split on good terms a few weeks ago. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Curtis Deisenroth, Ken Hahn, Rob Anderzack, Tim Sabo and Roberts. ... Oakshade hosts two more series events on June 21 and Aug. 2.
On the move: Consolation race winner Matt Miller of Whitehouse, Ohio, roared from 17th to finish fourth in the feature.
