Nick Dickson (17) battles Max Blair (111) in the AMS opener at Bedford.
What won the race: Front-row starter Nick Dickson of Lewistown, Pa., officially led all 40 laps of Friday's Appalachian Mountain Speedweek opener for a $4,000 victory. Nickson, who quickly regained the lead when Max Blair slipped by in turn three, notched his second career triumph on the annual miniseries.
Quotable: "(Max Blair) did what he had to do," Dickson said of Blair's attempt to get by in turn three. "Sometimes you've just gotta use eight wheels instead of four. Nothing against him. I knew I wasn't aggressive as I should've been with lapped cars. ... He kind of surprised me whenever he was there, and I thought, 'I better gas it.' One way or the other we're going to make some stuff fly or (get) back up there."
Key notes: The victory was Dickson's first of the 2016 season. ... Dickson started on the outside pole and outgunned Jared Miley at the initial green to assume command and lead from flag-to-flag. ...Appalachian Mountain Speedweek continues throughout the weekend in Pennsylvania, visiting Port Royal on Saturday and Path Valley on Sunday.
Winner's sponsors: Dickson's No. 17 MastersBilt by Huey Race Car is sponsored by Dickson's Alignment Shop and Hoosier Racing Tire.
Points chase: This was the first event of the 2016 Appalachian Mountain Speedweek. Jeff Rine of Danville, Pa., is the defending champion of the series.
