What won the race: Surviving a scrape with John Waters, third-starting Bryce Davis of Hornell, N.Y., won Sunday at Tri-City Raceway Park for his first Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH touring victory in more than a year. Davis earned $2,000 for his Bill Emig Memorial victory over Will Thomas III of Sharpsville, Pa., who advanced five spots in the 30-lapper.
Quotable: "First I have to apologize to Johnny Waters," Davis said. "We were both racing hard in lapped traffic. I saw my shot there. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to capitalize on it and wasn't sure if I was going to get another chance so I went a little too hot into (turn) one and got into him. I feel really bad, but I'm glad I got him straightened out. We're friends and we talk on a regular basis. The last thing I want is bad blood between us. I hope he forgives me and we can move on from this."
Key notes: Sunday's event marked Tri-City's season opener (drivers practiced Wednesday). ... Davis received a natural hardwood laser-etched trophy from Steve Hendren of Hendrren Racing Engines. ... RUSH touring Late Models revisit Tri-City on Aug. 14. ... The race paid tribute to Bill Emig, a Semi-Late and six-cylinder car owner from 1969-'90. Emig's cars won more than 300 races.
On the move: Alan Dellinger of Hermitage, Pa., started 11th and finished fifth.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Mike Pegher Jr. of Wexford, Pa., had 296 points to lead John Waters (294) and Bryce Davis (286).
