Rich Bell waves the checkers atop his car at Mount Pleasant.
What won the race: Illinois invader Rich Bell topped Michigan foes Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Speedway for a $4,000 victory on the second-year American Ethanol Late Model Tour. The Sheffield, Ill., driver who started outside the second row led every lap, fighting off repeated challenges from polesitter Eric Spangler of Lake City, Mich., for the victory.
Key notes: Bell is the second consecutive non-Michigan winner on the Michigan series; Billy Moyer Jr. won June 17 at Hartford Speedway. ... Runner-up Eric Spangler finished just than a half-second behind Bell. ... Cautions on laps 21, 30, 32 and 39 slowed the action in the 40-lapper. ... The American Ethanol Late Model Tour held a midweek $4,000-to-win event. ... The Ethanol tour visits Mount Pleasant again Aug. 19.
On the move: Ryan VanderVeen of Six Lakes, Mich., started 13th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Bell's No. 21B is sponsored by Give Graphics, Galva Iron & Metal, Z Best, Bell's Tranmission, DB Construction and BDI.
Points chase: Dona Marcoullier entering the event leading Ethanol standings (164) over Ryan VanderVeen (137) and Eric Spangler (127).
