What won the race: Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., outdueled fast qualifier Brent Dixon of Elberton, Ga., and Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., to score his first career Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals victory in Screven Motor Speedway's Rebel Yell. He earned a $5,300 payday while leading the final 18 laps.
Quotable: "It was a fun race. Any time you get to run door-to-door like we did and then split each other, somebody on the top, somebody on the middle and bottom, it was just awesome," Ferguson said. "In the midpart of the race when we was in third and they were running around that bottom and I had harder tire on so I kinda couldn't get down there, I didn't know if I was going to win. It was just fun to race like that and come out and actually be the winner. That makes it even better."
Key notes: Ferguson notched his fifth special event victory of the season; his last came in Ultimate series action at Dublin Motor Speedway on June 25. ... Ferguson was the fifth winner in five series events. ... The series closes a Georgia weekend tripleheader Sunday at Rome Speedway.
Winner's sponsors: Ferguson's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Champion, Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, On-Site Solutions, Langley Collision Center, Carver & Sons Roofing, Keith's Handyman Services, Hickman Fabricating, Penske Shocks and K&N Filters.
Points chase: Leaving Screven, Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., has 837 points to lead Shanon Buckingham (827) and Chris Brown (819).
