John Waters emerges from his car at Ohsweken Speedway.
What won the race: Rebounding after 2016 disappointment at Ohsweken Speedway, John Waters of Whitesville N.Y., led all 30 laps from his front-row starting spot Monday for his second Go Nuclear Series victory of the season. Waters earned $2,000 in turned back a late charge by Charlie Sandercock.
Quotable: "This track is amazing," Waters said. "Last year was a heartbreaker and we had a racing altercation that took us out of contention. Tonight, it was nice to stay up front.”
Key notes: Waters won the Go Nuclear opener April 24 at Utica-Rome Speedway. ... At Ohsweken, Waters made a key three-wide move amid traffic with three laps remaining to get a cushion on runner-up Charlie Sandercock. ... Fast qualifier Chris Fleming's third-place run was his first podium finish on the series. ... Polesitter Kyle Sopaz slipped back to eighth after just nine laps and ended up 12th. ... A.J. Kingsley spun for a lap-four caution. ... John Pinnsoneault retired after a lap-nine spin.
On the move: Brandon Mowat of Brighton, Ontario, started 11th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Waters drove a Dale LeBarron-owned No. 11 sponsored by Atkins Appraisal, Troupscreek Heating, Fox Shocks, Fastline Performance, Renegade Forestry Management, Close Racing Supply and Sunoco/Insinger Performance Race Fuels.
