What won the race: Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., capped off the sophomore campaign of the STARS-backed Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week with a $3,000 victory at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex, topping Devin Moran and Duane Chamberlain in the 30-lap feature. Carpenter led all the way, turning back mid-race challenges from Chamberlain, including when the two made contact on the backstretch.
Quotable: "It's one of the craziest and funnest and wildest weeks of my life," Carpenter said in victory lane. "We all agreed we was going to venture out and run this Buckeye Series to see where we stood with a little better group of cars. ... We well did the impossible. None of us gave up. My whole crews running on about six or seven hours of sleep over the last three or four days. I can't thank everybody enough."
Key notes: Carpenter also won the Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week opener July 21 at Legendary Hilltop Speedway in Marietta, Ohio. ... Rod Conley wrapped up the Buckeye title, outpointing Zack Dohm who early in the feature was ahead of Conley and was in position to steal the title. ... Polesitter Jackie Boggs, who twice won Buckeye events at Atomic Speedway this week, scratched from the feature with electrical issues. ... The feature was slowed by two cautions. ... Friday rain forced the race to be rescheduled for Sunday. ... Brushcreek hosted its lone Late Model event of the season.
On the move: Runner-up Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, started sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Carpenter's Kryptonite Race Car is sponsored by Big A Mufflers, Johnnie L. Boston General Contracting, JRi Shocks, Octane Race Products, Pro-Tech Auto Sales and Schaeffer's Racing Oil.
