Justin McRee had plenty of company in victory lane at Magnolia.
What won the race: Slipping back to third with 10 laps remaining after leading the first half of the race, outside front-row starter Justin McRee of Woodstock, Ala., went to the high side after a lap-32 restart to overtake Ashley Newman of Ripley, Tenn., and notched his second series victory in three races. Newman and Kyle Shaw of Millport, Ala., settled for second and third behind McRee, who led the last six laps.
Quotable: “I wouldn’t have won this race if it wasn’t for that late caution flag,” McRee said. “I went with the softer tires and committed to the high side, so when we had to get down on the bottom to get through lapped traffic, the tires got hot and there was no grip. The caution let me cool off the tires and take care of business on the restart.”
Key notes: McRee's 11th career NeSmith Chevrolet Series finish ties him for third all-time with William Thomas. ... Runner-up Ashley Newman led laps 21-34. ... Fourteen of 24 starters completed 40 laps. ... Sixth-starting Chris Noah's first-lap spin triggered a multicar pileup that elminated Noah and Nick Thrash.
On the move: Nathan Mayes of Springdale, Ark., started 24th and finished 11th.
Winner's sponsors: McRee's entry is sponsored by his High Roller Race Cars.
Points chase: Mack McCarter moved into the series points lead with his fifth-place finish. He has 704 points to lead Ronnie Johnson (702) and Walker Arthur (666).
