What won the race: Rallying from his 11th starting spot, Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, won Friday's Yankee Dirt Track Classic tuneup at Farley Speedway. The reigning series champion inherited the lead when polesitter Spencer Diercks had a lap-37 flat tire. Kay earned $2,000 for his third victory of the season and second in the last two series races.
Key notes: Kay's 19 career series victories are tied with Rob Toland for seventh on the all-time list. ... Kay also won Thursday's Late Model feature during Farley's traditional big weekend. ... Track champ Joel Callahan drew a lap-23 caution but came back to finish second. ... Two other yellows slowed the action: Chad Holladay (lap 37) and Andy Eckrich (lap 43). ... Corey Zeitner won the non-qualifiers feature over Charlie McKenna, Jerry King, Darrel DeFrance and Richie Gustin ... Friday's action was a prelim for Staurday's $7,500-to-win 100-lapper. ... The long-running event originated at Hawkeye Downs Speedway and moved to Farley years ago with previous winners including Steve Kosiski, Ray Guss Jr., Denny Eckrich, Steve Boley, Gary Webb, Chad Simpson, Tyler Bruening, Joel Callahan and last year's winner Jeff Aikey.
