What won the race: Taking command after series points leader Jesse Stovall slowed with a smoking car on lap 37, Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., on Saturday led the rest of the 50-lap Larry Phillips Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway. Vaught earned $5,075 for his first Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory in more than two years.
Quotable: "Everything just fell into place. The Larry Phillips Memorial. He was one of my idols when I was little. This means everything," Vaught said. "I've been beat a lot by leading laps like Jesse was. He was setting a blistering pace. He had a good car and that's heartbreak."
Key notes: Vaught has six career MLRA victories. ... His previous win came May 16, 2014, at Outlaw Motorsports Park near Muskogee, Okla. ... J.C. Wyman, who won his first MLRA feature the previous night at Lakeside Speedway, led the first eight laps and finished third. ... Jason Papich also led a handful of early laps. ... Eleven drivers finished on the lead lap. ... The race honored the memory National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Larry Phillips. ... MLRA returns to Lucas Oil Speedway to wrap up its season with two shows on Oct. 7-8.
