What won the race: Turning around a night that started on a bad note, Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., emerged victorious in Friday's 40-lap Sunoco American Late Model Series-sanctioned feature at Kankakee County Speedway. He missed qualifying after suffering mechanical trouble in hot laps but made repairs and stormed back to take the $2,000 victory from the seventh starting spot.
Key notes: Four drivers finished on the lead lap. ... McKay Wenger led for a dozen laps until breaking a rear end, handing the lead to Unzicker. ... Kevin Weaver was also swept up with Schlenk and didn't continue. ... Ten of the 17 starters were running at the finish of the feature. ... The event was the second-to-last ALMS race of the seasonl; the schedule concludes at Eldora's DIRTcar Fall Nationals on Oct. 1. ... Kankakee's only other ALMS event was rained out May 13.
On the move: Steve Thorsten started last (17th) and negotiated his way forward to finish fifth.
